How I Create a Galaxy Print using the Pour Art Technique| Photo Tutorial

Written by Mummy On My Mind

Hello crafters! This is Zeyna from Mummy On My Mind back with another Mom & Child craft, this time creating a project for March.

The theme for March is “Punches”, the stationary kind. Punches come in all sorts of different shapes and sizes, and Pretty Paper Studio stock a wide range of them. I decided to combine punches with Pour Art, something I have been itching to do for a very long time.

POUR ART

Below is the photo tutorial of how it was made and list of all PPS items used in this project can be found at the bottom of the post. Let’s get started!

To begin with, I took one of the Square Wooden Trays from the set of three to use as my base. I painted the entire back side of it with black acrylic. This will essentially be my main canvas.

Once the black paint was dry, I splattered some white acrylic paint over it, by spraying it on with an old toothbrush. This created a night sky effect. I also painted on some white stars, but I wasn’t too sure about how they looked, so I decided to cover them up as you will see later on.

Next, I made a start on the pouring art technique by using the Inks from the Liquitex Pouring Set. I made a makeshift pouring station, using plates and bowls for the inks to drop on to. Be warned, this is an extremely messy technique!

I am pouring the art on to some white paper, instead of canvas as I want to cut the paper out in different shapes.

I poured some of the diluted acrylics and inks into a single cup, and then poured it on to white paper. Since it was my first time, it took me several trail and errors to eventually get the effect I was looking for.

I found that the runnier the mixture was, the better . Also, not to work it too much or else the colours merge together rather than giving you those detailed lines of seperate colours.

The process itself is extremely therapeautic, but make sure to dry the art on a level surface, or the colours will move as they dry.

Once the inks were dry and I was happy with some of the results, I used a 2 inch circular punch and a star punch to cut out these shapes.

I glued these shapes on to the blank wooden tray canvas that I had painted earlier, to create a night sky with planets and stars. I covered the originally white painted stars that I did not like with these pour art stars on top.

I also used a White paint marker pen to letter a short saying on the canvas which was a perfect fit: “Dare to Dream Big”. And here’s how it turned out!

POUR ART

What do you think of it? This will look absolutely lovely hung on Master Z’s bedroom wall or even resting on a shelf. I think for my first attempt at Pour Art, I am quite happy with how it turned out.
