Embossed Quote Gift Box – Photo Tutorial

Hello there! Wish you all a very happy and prosperous New Year!

This is Mable here from ‘Flourished Expressions’, with my tutorial for this month. Our theme for January is “Hope”.

My DT kit for January included the Judikins Embossable window and Dr. Ph Martins Bleedproof white ink. I wanted to try out these supplies for a while and I used this opportunity to create an elegant embossed quote gift box featuring my favorite quote “Learn from yesterday, Live for today and Hope for tomorrow”.  I made a gift box like the ones I used to make for school craft projects with a twist. This embossed quote gift box is a simple way to create elegant gift boxes for small presents like tea lights or key chains.

Supplies:

•  Tombow Mono Adhesive Dispenser

•  DCWV Neutral Metallics Cardstock

• Bohin White Mechanical Chalk Pencil

Judikins Embossable Window Plastic Sheets

• Ranger Emboss It Pen

• Ranger Embossing Powder – Enchanted Gold and White

• Ranger Heat It Craft Tool

• Speedball Straight Holder and 513EF Nib

• Dr. Ph Martins Bleedproof White

Process

Step 1

To start with, I was intrigued by the idea of using White embossing on the Embossable window, so I chose Black and Silver cardstock from the DCVW Neutral Metallic Stack to make the box so the white could stand out. I cut out both cards to the dimensions shown below:

Box Base: Size 26 cms x 30 cms

Box Top: 19.2 cms x 23.2 cms

Then I scored the fold lines at 7.5 cms from the edges of the Box Base and 4 cms from the edges of the Box Cover. I also added a cut at the cut line.

Step 2

For the Box Base, I folded and stuck the tabs on all four sides using Tombow permanent adhesive dispenser. The Box Base is ready.

Step 3

Next, I made the window for the Box Cover with the embossed quote using the Judikins Embossable Window. I lettered the words “Learn”, “Live” and “Hope” with the Ranger Emboss It Pen and covered it with a mix of white and enchanted gold embossing powder. You must use a powder tool over the Embossable window before adding the embossing powder to avoid the embossing powder sticking where you don’t want it. If you don’t have the powder tool, brush the window with a little baby powder. Also, keep moving the heat tool over the word – concentrating the heat in one spot will cause the clear window to warp. After the embossed words cooled, I wrote the rest of the quote with DR Ph Martin’s Bleedproof white and Speedball straight holder with the 513EF nib. The 513EF is a stiff nib and is good for monoline script.

Step 4

To complete the Box Cover, I started by measuring out a frame of 1.5 cms from the edge of the cover and cut out the center. In addition,  I drew a frame with the Emboss it pen and embossed it with white and gold powder. Once this was cooled, I stuck the clear window on the inside of the Box Cover with the Tombow permanent adhesive. Lastly, I stuck the tabs of the Box Cover with Tombow adhesive to complete the Box Cover.
