Project Life 101

Written by ingrid lim

Hi there…

Happy New Year! Ingrid here and I will be sharing more Project Life pages and mini-albums with you this year. I am so behind my Project Life and I just started picking up from where I left off.

This month’s challenge theme is “Rainbow” and there’s still chance for you to participate.

Two things on today’s post.
FIRST, I am going to share my October 2016 Project Life pages using my January DT kit.

October Project Life pages.
Just have a few photos for this month and I always edit them before I had them printed out. I used a simple 4×6 and 3×4 minimalist photo template from Paislee Press which I have been using for the past 3 years of my Project Life.

For this entire month, I used the journal cards from the Project Life Cathy Zielske value kit. For my title card, I used the Dear Lizzy Good Vibes puffy letter stickers to spell “October”. Once again, I do a minimal embellishment and I used the wood veneer embellishment from the Project Life value kit, Currently ephemera die-cuts and flairs.

I also made some embellishment using Clearly Kelly 100% Me clear stamp. Stamped them on a white cardstock and then cut them up before adhering them on my photos.

October monthly scrapbook layout.
Found old photos of my eldest son from a few years ago. So I decided to use these photos for my October monthly scrapbook layout.

SECOND, I want to share my Project Life basics specially for those who wanted to start their Project Life.

Warning: Long post ahead…

Project Life is a simple way of memory-keeping and an alternative approach to traditional scrapbooking. There’s no “right” or “wrong” way of doing this. It will always depends on your personal approach.
These are my basic materials when I started with my Project Life.
BINDER/ALBUM
At the start, determine what size do you want for your Project Life album/binder and page protectors. As a beginner, I think it is better to start with a smaller size, 6×8 or 6×12. I have tried 6×8, 12×12 & 6×12 and by far I prefer the 6×12. 6×8 was small for me while the 12×12 was too large and heavy. You have to determine which size you think would fit your preference.

JOURNAL CARDS
It is economical, for me, to purchase value kits or smaller kits for journal cards rather than purchase the core kits. At the same time I can have different types of journal cards to choose from with value kits and I can also mix-and-match them according to my desire.

PAGE PROTECTORS
There are many types of page protectors available for Project Life. I suggest to start with the standard page protectors or the commonly used ones. What everbinder size you chose, choose the appropriate sizes of page protectors that would go and also fit in your binder.

YOU PHOTOS
Choose and print your photos whether 6×4 and/or 3×4.

PEN
Pen/pens are also a basic for me for Project Life to use for writing your journaling and other important information you want to document.

DATE STAMP
Date stamp is useful in putting dates on your photos or journal cards. However, you can add dates using a pen.

Apart from the basics to get you started with Project Life, there are optional products you can use. These are optional because you can create Project Life spreads even without these. These are not necessary but these “extra” bits and pieces make the Project Life process enjoyable to do.

There are also basic tools that you can find useful as well.PAPER TRIMMER
This tool is helpful in cutting to size my photos.

ADHESIVE TAPE AND ATTACHER
Adhesive tape and attacher (or you can find a less expensive  alternatives such as double-sided tape and staple at office supplies stores) are useful in adhering your embellishment.

CORNER ROUNDER
Not a big deal but if you prefer a rounded corners for your photos like those of the journal cards, then a corner rounder punch is pretty useful.

Once again, there’s no “right” way to do Project Life. You don’t need to have a huge collection of tools and supplies to start with, as long as you have the basics to document your life, then that’s more important. The process of doing Project Life should be enjoyable for you and not to burn down your enthuasiasm in memory-keeping.

There’s no need to rush. Start slow and learn the process. Eventually, you’ll get the hang of it and your approach will eventually change. Be inspired by the other Project Lifers but also remember that what works for them in terms of style or approach doesn’t mean it will work for you, too. Just relax and don’t be discourage. Someone said, finding your “style” will take time and that’s so true. So, be patient and just enjoy doing it.

I hope I get to inspire you with my simple Project Life pages and  that you find my long post helpful in getting started with Project Life.

Thanks for dropping by.
Have a nice blessed week ahead.

Ingrid♥
